Meet The Family
Val Stewart worked in the Engineering and Architectural fields but long had a passion for gardens and started getting her hands dirty professionally when asked to do 5 gardens on a housing development in Mpumalanga in 1996. In July 1999 she relocated back to the Cape and worked on her own as Val Stewart Garden Design. Val also has a great interest in Art and Cooking and as such enjoys life in Cape Town to its fullest. She contributes many hours of her week to helping out with underprivileged schools on the Cape Flats and is also a driving force for a greener, more eco-friendly Red Daffodil, trialing composting methods and growing veggies in her own garden.
Val’s son Chris Maddams joined Red Daffodil in 2003. Although he had completed a BSc(Hons) in Botany at UCT a gap year in London turned into a 6 year stretch in industries completely unrelated to the natural world. He joined Red Daffodil soon after his return to SA and has grown from being one of our first labourers to now designing and running all of our new Cape projects.
